Edmonton’s 17 Street Upgrades

CIMA+ liaised with Canadian Pacific Railway to navigate the expansion of an existing railway crossing.

Due to a high volume of truck traffic, upgrades were required to 17th Street in Edmonton, Alberta. Designated as a 24-hour truck and over-dimensional load route, 17th Street is also a common route for the transportation of dangerous goods. CIMA+ was hired to help facilitate upgrades, including widening the cross-section from a two to four-lane configuration, including drainage upgrades and utility coordination. Adding to the complexity of the project, a Canadian Pacific Railway crossing is located within the project area. It was determined that the CP crossing would need to be widened to facilitate the 17th street upgrade, which required collaboration with CP authorities.
