Cité du savoir, Laval campus

Construction of a new higher education facility. This project obtained the 2011 Armatura Award from the Institut d’acier d’armature du Québec (IAAQ) in the Institutional Building category.

In collaboration with Université de Montréal, the City of Laval wanted to create a human knowledge pole. CIMA+ was asked to provide services in structural, civil and electrical engineering for the construction of a 21,000 m² building adjacent to the Montmorency subway station. The building houses a three-storey parking lot that can accommodate 300 vehicles, classrooms, laboratories, amphitheatres, a library, offices and an atrium with a monumental staircase designed to create the illusion that it is floating. Vibration analyses were conducted in order to minimize impacts on users and ensure comfort. Lastly, innovative solutions had to be set forth in order to protect existing structures from the impacts of underground works conducted near the subway station.
