Expansion and renovation of the John H. Price Sports and Recreation Centre

An energy-efficient sports centre for the university community and population of Sherbrooke.

This $20.4M project entailed a 1,480 m2 reconstruction of the existing building and the construction of a 7,250 m2 expansion.

CIMA+ produced the drawings and specifications for the construction of a new double air-conditioned gymnasium with a mezzanine, renovations to the existing sports centre, relocation and construction of the health and wellness centre and construction of a building linking the sports centre to the arena.

In order to comply with energy requirements and reduce the long-term financial impact, the CIMA+ team recommended a design that featured energy efficiency, the reduction of energy requirements and the use of renewable energy:

  • Energy system fed by the geothermal energy loop that supplies the campus;
  • Use of a thermal wheel to recover energy in the air evacuated by the ventilation system;
  • Natural gas condensing boilers to meet peak demands for heating and domestic hot water.
