Paul Kane High School Replacement

Replacing an existing high school to accommodate an increasing number of students.

The St. Albert public elementary schools have seen record-setting enrollment growth over the years. In preparation for these students accessing high school, it was decided to build a new Paul Kane High School beside the existing one, with a capacity to accommodate 1,500 students.

The design provided by CIMA+ included a mechanical system comprised of five air handlers with full air side heat recovery, four high-efficiency condensing boilers, pumps and four high-efficiency water heaters. Furthermore, the new school has a commercial teaching kitchen, construction fabrication classrooms and two science super labs with fume hoods and a full DDC control system.

The mechanical systems are designed to meet the minimum LEED Silver designation. Additional green features include electric vehicle charging stations, sustainable building materials, built-in recycling centre,  solar panels, and systems that use 43% less water and 40% less energy than the existing facility.
