Westmount Recreation Centre

Design-build delivery of a LEED Canada BD+C Gold certified sports complex. This project obtained the Grand prix du génie-conseil québécois from AFG in the Building Structural category, and the 2016 Award of Excellence from the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Canada (ACEC) in the Building category.

In order to respond to the citizen’s requests for the replacement of Westmount’s old sports facilities, this new recreation centre was built partly underground to reduce the visual impact of its modern infrastructure in a neighborhood with a classic architecture. The innovative design allowed for the harmonious integration of the new facilities into the existing topography and the conservation and creation of green areas. The building houses two underground skating rinks with bleachers, changing rooms, technical rooms, as well as public spaces, administrative offices, multifunctional rooms and outdoor swimming pools. It is the first sports centre in the world with two underground skating rinks, the roofs of which were designed by CIMA+’s bridge experts.
