CIMA+ becomes an Ambassador for the Ottawa Centre EcoDistrict Program

Laval, Februrary 5, 2016 – CIMA+ is pleased to announce that it recently became an ambassador for EcoDistricts in the National Capital Region. EcoDistricts is an approach whereby stakeholders work together to promote district-scale sustainable neighbourhoods through the use of integrated sustainable development and maintenance practices. By registering for the Ottawa Centre EcoDistrict Ambassador Program, CIMA+ is identified as a consulting firm of choice, recognized for its expertise and use of sustainable development planning and engineering practices. CIMA+’s interest in adopting this approach is reflected in a recent community design initiative by the Ottawa Urban Planning Team.

In response to a recent RFQ from the National Capital Commission’s international design competition for the redevelopment of LeBreton Flats, CIMA+ has recommended the implementation of the “EcoDistrict Protocol” throughout the project’s various development phases, as part of an overall sustainable development strategy. This major brownfield redevelopment project proposal reimagines the complete revitalization of the underdeveloped portions of the LeBreton Flats area, which is located along Ottawa’s new LRT downtown corridor. The team’s goal is to create a vibrant, sustainable mixed use site that is focused on the public and private realm areas, providing easy access to public transit, museums, libraries, offices and open spaces, as well as shopping and housing for residents, local businesses and visitors. Our vision is to create an environmentally sensitive and sustainable community district providing Canadians the opportunity to live, work, play and visit in the heart of Canada’s National Capital.

A Web site was developed by Ottawa Centre EcoDistrict: http://ottawaecodistrict.org  A Facebook page and a Twitter account have also been created to allow members of the community to voice their opinion.

About EcoDistricts

Originating in Portland, Oregon, the “EcoDistricts Protocol” provides a delivery framework whereby residents, owners, businesses and organizations work together to create social spaces that are ecologically, economically and socially healthier, while reducing their environmental footprint. Implementation of the protocol ensures that best practices are applied throughout the life cycle of real estate projects. The Ottawa Centre EcoDistrict is the first of its kind in Canada and CIMA+ is one of its founding ambassadors.
