CIMA+ is actively involved in the creation of the Zibi project, a visionary real estate development in terms of sustainability and innovation. Located on the historic site of the former Domtar factory, Zibi stands out as the first real estate project in Canada to integrate the principles of One Planet Living, an ambitious framework aimed at reducing the ecological footprint while creating a vibrant and inclusive environment for its residents and visitors.
Since 2019, our teams, in collaboration with the National Capital Commission (NCC) and the cities of Gatineau and Ottawa, have brought their engineering expertise to this initiative. The Zibi project has repurposed existing infrastructure and materials to minimize its environmental impact, a challenge our experts have met with passion and dedication. One of the project’s flagship achievements is the installation of an innovative thermal energy plant that harnesses heat from steam and cold from the Ottawa River. This unique system provides heating and cooling for the site’s buildings, demonstrating our commitment to long-term ecological solutions.
CIMA+ experts in hydrology, civil engineering, transportation, and building design have also contributed to the implementation of shared, multifunctional pathways that promote active mobility and integrate close collaboration with local Indigenous communities. This project has not only created sustainable infrastructure but also fostered soft mobility practices and harmonious living spaces. Thestreets of Zibi embody the goal of designing human-scale environments where comfort, safety, and sustainability converge.
As the Zibi project continues to take shape, CIMA+ continues to collaborate with local partners, governments, and communities in Ontario and Quebec showcases. At CIMA+, we want to create life environments that will be our legacy for future generations.
