Montréal, September 24, 2026 — CIMA+, one of Canada’s largest private engineering consulting firms, was recognized at the 24th edition of the Grands Prix du génie-conseil québecois, the highest accolade in the engineering consulting industry in Québec, organized by the Association des firmes de génie-conseil – Québec (AFG). This prestigious ceremony, held on September 21, highlights the contribution of engineering consulting firms to innovative and transformative projects across the province.
CIMA+ won two awards, which attest to the expertise and commitment of its teams in carrying out large-scale projects.
Building Structure: Pavilion C, UQÀM
CIMA+ was honoured with the Grand Prize in the Building Structure category for its work on Pavilion C at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM) campus, a project that combines heritage preservation and structural innovation in the heart of Montréal’s Latin Quarter.
The transformation of the former Alexandra School, built in 1910, into an entrepreneurship and innovation pavilion for UQÀM required preserving the building’s architectural identity while adapting it to contemporary standards and uses. As the lead firm for structural, civil and environmental engineering within the design consortium, CIMA+ developed a “building-within-a-building” solution, integrating a new self-supporting concrete and steel framework behind the century-old facade. This approach made it possible to preserve the existing heritage while adding two stories and a basement, as well as improving the building’s seismic performance.
Energy: Hertel-New York 400-kV Underground Transmission Line
CIMA+ received the Grand Prize in the Energy category for its contribution to the Hertel-New York 400-kV Underground Transmission Line, a major infrastructure project supporting the North American energy transition.
This 603-km interconnection will carry up to 1,250 MW of hydroelectric power from Québec to New York City—equivalent to approximately 25% of the city’s electricity needs. The project stands out for its entirely underground and subsea design—a first in North America—which required the development of customized solutions for the installation, connection and monitoring of very high-capacity cables. By replacing a portion of the electricity generated from fossil fuels in New York with hydroelectric power, the project is expected to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately four million metric tons of CO₂ per year.
With these accolades, CIMA+ reaffirms its leadership in engineering consulting in Québec and its commitment to developing sustainable and meaningful projects that showcase our expertise in the province.
