The City of North Bay, Ontario developed its 2025–2029 Road Safety Strategy to improve safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians by reducing serious injuries and fatalities resulting from collisions. CIMA+ played a leading role in the strategy’s development through detailed collision analyses, stakeholder engagement and the creation of a comprehensive five-year action plan containing 74 engineering, enforcement and education countermeasures. The project analyzed more than 4,900 collisions over a six-year period to identify high-risk areas and prioritize targeted safety improvements.
Supporting safer communities through better road design
The Road Safety Strategy provides a practical roadmap to achieve a minimum 15% reduction in fatal and serious injury collisions in North Bay within five years, supporting the City’s long-term vision of eliminating such collisions. Key initiatives include traffic calming measures, smarter pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, accessibility improvements, enhanced data collection and ongoing monitoring and evaluation programs.
By integrating technical rigour, public engagement and forward-thinking solutions, CIMA+ has helped position North Bay as a leader in proactive, evidence-based road safety planning for small municipalities.
