  • Mission

    Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs, you will join a team of lawyers and contract specialists advising business people on legal issues arising from projects involving the provision of professional engineering services. Your role will be to review contracts at the proposal stage, and to support project managers during project execution and claims management.   You may also be involved in M&A transactions. This position offers exceptional opportunities to get involved in important aspects of the company's business.

    You'll have the choice of working at the CIMA+ office closest to your place of residence, telecommuting, or a combination of both.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Review contracts, identify and communicate risks to project managers, and work with them to resolve contractual issues on a wide variety of projects across assigned business lines
    • Keep abreast of legislative developments that may affect the delivery of projects in assigned business areas
    • Critically review the scope of services and commercial terms, and assess and communicate the legal and commercial risks associated with these terms
    • Conduct negotiations with customers and develop and implement strategies for the team
    • Advise on processes and actions to mitigate legal and project risks
    • Provide legal advice on contract terms and conditions
    • Develop and constantly improve processes, resources and contractual precedents
    • Provide strategic guidance to business people and outside counsel on claims management
  • Profile
    • A degree in civil or common law and membership in good standing with a Canadian provincial law society. A degree in engineering will be considered an important asset.
    • Five (5) years' experience in litigation or commercial law in the field of professional design or construction services, acquired in a law firm or in-house.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the life cycle of professional service contracts and the risks inherent in the various stages of projects
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision.
    • Ability to build trust and establish lasting partnerships with various stakeholders within the organization
    • Ability to exercise independent judgment and decisiveness in resolving complex issues.
    • Leadership skills to communicate effectively and positively influence experienced professionals and managers
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in French and English : Bilingualism is an essential requirement for this position, as it allows for effective collaboration with our various stakeholders
    • Experience in mergers and acquisitions is an asset
