In light of a 57% increase in the number of cyclists from 2008 to 2013, and in keeping with its “Vision Zero” road safety strategy adopted in 2016, Ville de Montréal plans to make cycling a rapid, practical and safe mode of transportation. In its Cycling Master Plan, Montréal committed to investing more than $150 M over the next five years to increase the mode share of cycling trips in central neighbourhoods to 15% within the next 15 years.
The CIMA+ project focused on identifying the problems with existing cycling facilities, including through the use of cameras to analyze user behaviour, and recommending general or specific interventions for improving the comfort and safety of cyclists.
