Extension of the reserved lane on Robert-Bourassa Boulevard

Delivering a traffic impact study in less than a month for development of preferential measures for buses (BPM)

Due to traffic hindrances caused by the numerous road construction sites in Downtown Montreal, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) was expecting traffic conditions to deteriorate on Robert-Bourassa Boulevard, which is the primary southern access point to Montreal’s business district. The STM and the City of Montreal considered implementing a 24/24 operational reserved lane on northbound Robert-Bourassa Boulevard, between Saint-Paul and Belmont streets, therefore extending the existing section that runs between Wellington and Saint-Paul streets. Early in 2020, CIMA+ was tasked with evaluating the impacts the implementation of a reserved lane would have on traffic. Carried out over a very short period of time, this project enabled the STM to roll out the recommended measures as early as September 7, 2020.
