The people behind CIMA+ : Émile Dorais

What does transportation mean to you?

For me, transportation is not simply a question of moving from point A to point B. It’s a field that encompasses technology, human behaviour and social organization. I find it fascinating to see how the various modes of transportation reflect the needs and values of communities, and I really enjoy the social aspect of transportation projects aimed at improving the daily lives of people.

Why did you choose to join the CIMA+ Mobility Engineering Team?

When I was looking at internships for my Bachelor studies at Polytechnique Montréal, CIMA+ stood apart as one of the only companies that included a team dedicated to mobility.

How would you define the CIMA+ Mobility Engineering Team?

The CIMA+ Mobility Engineering Team is stimulating, dynamic, collaborative and welcoming. It epitomizes the ideals of team spirit and the sharing of ideas. Every project is the fruit of a collaborative effort, which makes the work even more interesting and rewarding.

Why did you choose the field of mobility?

I chose mobility because it directly affects people’s lives. I am proud of the fact that our projects are intended to make travel more effective, safer and more enjoyable. It’s very gratifying to know that our work contributes to improving the daily lives of people by making their travel easier and making the streets safer.

Please describe your career path.

My career paths started with my internship at CIMA+, which is where I had the opportunity to acquire experience in the field of Mobility Engineering and learn from seasoned professionals.

How long was your internship?

Four months, in the summer of 2023.

What impact does your work have on the environment?

CIMA+ is focused on reducing dependence on motor vehicles and promoting greener modes of transportation, like bicycling and walking. The Mobility Team always takes the social and environmental aspects into account, which helps to create greener and friendlier cities.

What do you like most about your work?

I like that I get to see projects through from the initial concept to the final reality. Being involved in every step, from development to meetings with the client to collecting and analyzing data to finding solutions is incredibly fulfilling. Seeing the project take shape and knowing that there will be positive impacts on the community is a major source of satisfaction.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to be outdoors, so I do a lot of hiking and camping, and I love to cook for my family and friends, which is a great way to spend time together. My friends and I also share a passion for making craft beer, which is always fun. In terms of sports, I played soccer for many years. That’s my favorite sport. I also like to play video games with my friends and watch documentaries to expand my knowledge.
