An existing variable height 30-year-old timber retaining wall, located along a public walkway in a Mississauga residential area was in the process of failing and needed to be replaced. CIMA+ was tasked with carrying out a condition assessment of the existing structure, completing the design and overseeing the construction of walkway improvements. Upgrades included a new precast concrete retaining wall, cast-in-place concrete planter curbs, as well as lighting and landscape design. It was important to provide a solution that would last for several years and require little maintenance. CIMA+ recommended the use of quality controlled wet cast concrete walls, ensuring a dense weather and salt resisting surface. The wall surface is reflective, preventing unwanted noise transferring from the walkway to neighbouring properties. This project won the 2018 Public Works Project of the Year – Disaster/Emergency Construction/Repair Award from the Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA).
