Highway 2 Corridor Improvement Study

This 50-year-old highway needed an upgrade to accommodate a population that more than tripled in size between 2001 and 2016, and is expected to continue expanding over the long-term.

CIMA+ was retained as prime consultant, along with partners Al-Terra Engineering and Castleglenn Consultants to develop a strategic plan for the Highway 2 corridor linking Edmonton and Calgary (ring road to ring road). This unique initiative prioritizes overall upgrading requirements along the 265 km long corridor linking Edmonton and Calgary, and connecting 20 municipalities in between. A land-use forecast was developed to address the corridor’s growth rate. This was completed by reviewing the land use forecast for the Alberta Southern Region, available planning documents, historical growth and development patterns, and growth forecasts for each of the jurisdictions in the model sub-area.
