Replacing a corroded wall in a bleaching plant without interrupting operations

Over the years, the very hot, humid and corrosive environment of the pulp and paper mill’s bleaching area has severely corroded the structural frame of a wall 50 feet wide by 5 storeys high.

The wall and most of its components had lost their structural integrity. The extent of the deterioration and the congested state of the affected area made it impossible to replace or reinforce the existing structure.

CIMA+ devised a solution whereby a brand new wall frame was added at a distance of 18 inches just outside of the existing one. This new wall was built and connected to the existing building, with the deficient wall still standing inside of it. Once this was complete, the corroded structure was safely dismantled without requiring any shutdowns
