Sportsplex Remediation

CIMA+’s team of structural engineers quickly and economically solved a persistent leaky roof problem.

The 44 x 62.5 m fabric-covered steel truss rib building housing the Adidas Sportsplex in Penticton began leaking within one week of construction, and the problem worsened over the next eight years. CIMA+’s team discovered that the water was infiltrating in three ways: poor exterior drainage, holes and rips in the fabric roof, and poor wall assembly and flashing.

Our solution involved redesigning the grading, drains and catch basin, in order to improve the exterior drainage system. We also reviewed the condition of the existing structure, directed the upgrade of the framing, and worked with an architect to design the changes necessary for the building envelope upgrades, and the repairs required on the roof membrane.
