Edmonton Laboratory Hub

A new facility designed with innovation in mind for streamlining testing services and accommodating larger volumes and capabilities to introduce new technologies.

With multiple small laboratory testing facilities disseminated across the Edmonton region, the services were stretched thin and inefficient. In the fall of 2017, the Alberta Health Service motioned the establishment of a completely new health service laboratory that will combine and consolidate eight small laboratories into one.

Designed to meet LEED Silver Standards, this unique 440,000 sq. ft space would be used for testing, but also for clinical, research and teaching functions. The facility would also have a CL3 containment lab to house highly infectious risk group 3 pathogens that may be transmitted by airborne route.

CIMA+ provided the design for all building mechanical systems to ensure operational continuity in various failure scenarios.

Unfortunately, due to political concerns, the project was terminated.
