Stabilization of the banks of the Saint Lawrence River at Pointe-aux-Outardes, Côte-Nord

Project involving reconstruction of a protective riprap installation for the purpose of reducing erosion of the banks of the Saint Lawrence River.

The municipality of Pointe-aux-Outardes wanted to have an accurate portrait of the condition of the protective riprap installation along rue Labrie Ouest, in the western sector of the dock.

Within the context of this project, which was executed as part of a consortium, the team began by inspecting the existing protective installation, noting that it does not provide stable protection over the long term. Pursuant to this observation, the municipality of Pointe-aux-Outardes decided to reconstruct the riprap in order to protect the banks of the River and the road infrastructure along rue Labrie Ouest.

The project was executed in several steps, beginning with the complete dismantling of the existing riprap. This was followed by designing the reprofiling of the slope of the embankment to obtain a general slope of 1:15, and designing the protective installation using stones of various sizes over a length of 765 m.

Environmental protection

One significant issue related to this mandate was environmental protection during the construction phase. The CIMA+ team was responsible for managing all environmental aspects of the project, namely implementing mitigation measures to ensure compliance with government requirements; compiling an inventory of wildlife in the biological environment; applying vegetation engineering and providing accompaniment services throughout the process of obtaining Applications for C.A.
