The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority 230 kV Buried Cables

Improving travel between Windsor and Detroit with the Gordie Howe International Bridge crossing the Detroit River.

The Canadian side of the new Gordie Howe International Bridge is located near the Hydro One Keith TS 230 kV/115 kV substation which has two overhead 115 kV and three overhead 230 kV transmission lines terminating on this site. CIMA+ was contracted by WDBA to provide complete engineering services and contract administration to bury these overhead lines underground.

Hydro One hired the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) to procure the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the bridge. The WDBA then tasked CIMA+ with the project to bury the transmission and distribution lines. This consisted of burying five 230 kV/115 kV transmission lines, adding four buried future circuits, terminating the cables at Keith TS and terminating the cables at five junction areas to intercept the overhead lines outside the plaza area.
