Toronto eBus Feasibility Study

The TTC are targeting a zero-emissions fleet, replacing the current fleet of 2,100 diesel-powered buses with a zero-emission bus fleet by 2040.

CIMA+ performed a feasibility study to review charging technology and implementation of 50% and full (100%) depot-charged, Battery-Electric-Bus (BEB) fleets at the TTC’s Arrow Road bus garage.

The project investigated the preferred technologies, and the practical difficulties of installing charging equipment in the existing structure and around a congested site. The work included structural analysis of the existing structure to determine the necessary reinforcements for pantographs as well as roof-top solar.

The results of the study will inform the TTC’s strategy as it works to electrify its existing fleet of over 2100 buses.

In close conjunction with the TTC eBus team and their partners at OPG, we determined the preferred technology solutions for scalable, full-fleet electrification.
